Sometimes It Takes a Small Angry Dog to Teach You About Strengths

Here’s Fergie. Like most of us, he’s had his challenges. At six months, we re-homed Fergie from an older couple who were unable to look after him any longer.

I’m not sure what happened to him in the early months of his life, though I think the only contact he had with other dogs was an aggressive big brother.

So his biggest challenge is being around other dogs. But while that’s difficult for him, like all of us, he has a strength. Though we’ve had him a while now, it took a little time to find it.

His strength is his running.

When we head out the door together, running mile after mile, he’s his best self. He can cope with other dogs, and we can, very literally, see the joy in his eyes.

The rest of the time, he’s cuddled up with us, watching TV or sitting on a chair beside me while I work. He’s our best friend.

So, like us, he remains a work in progress. But that’s ok, so are we.

After all, each of us have obstacles to overcome, and we all have our strengths.

It’s just that sometimes we aren’t aware of the latter, haven’t explored them, or don’t know how to apply them.

What are yours? Do you know them?

If you’d like to learn more about your strengths and create a life that works for you, check out some of my training.
