Can Self-Compassion Be Boxed?
Learning to unpack kindness
Most of us aren’t great at being kind to ourselves. We spend a lot of our time thinking we’ve failed or feeling disappointed in what we’ve done.
Here we go again, another dinner burnt!
This diet will never work; I can’t stick at anything!
Give the presentation to someone else; I’ll mess it up!
But really!! Is that how we want to think of ourselves?
Such harsh judgments are damaging — mentally and physically — to our relationships with ourselves and our environment.
And yet, it doesn’t have to be this way, and it may require nothing more than a box — even a virtual one!
Why self-compassion matters
Most people don’t realize that practicing self-compassion provides a host of benefits.
Simply being more kind to how you feel, think, and look, can:
- Boost mental health, including feelings of positivity and happiness
- Reduce symptoms of depression
- Increase coping skills and resilience
- Improve physical health and our overall sense of wellness
- Predict wellbeing across cultures
